A friend of mine asked me the other day: – “When you were a coach starting out what did you really need to know that you know now?

Oh dear, one year ago I know nothing about marketing! But that all changed after I received an invitation from Steve Harrison, a well-known, generous and successful marketing professional, to attend two days Mastermind Meeting with him and my mentor Jack Canfield. That trip changed my life, my world, and the way I conduct business!

The 5 things I wish I knew a year ago about marketing:

1. Build your marketing plan, your blueprint, your roadmap.

Your marketing plan is one of the most important business tools for any company. If you are looking for funding to start up a business, a bank will want to understand your marketing plan. If you are looking for investment to take your business to the next level, your investor(s) will want to see a marketing plan to understand how their money is going to generate a positive return. And if you are selling your business, your potential acquirers will want to understand both your marketing strategy and your marketing plan.

2. Be creative

Creativity will become one of the most in-demand skills and will cut across many fields. Distill it into your own strategy.

3. Adapt to thrive

You will need to adapt quickly to an ever-changing world and be flexible and resilient. (No one was prepared for COVID-19 but in order to survive you must adapt!)

4. Become tech savvy

We may already feel we are being bombarded with different versions of software and new programs. However, you will be able to do more business worldwide.

5. Build your personal brand- Incorporate Technology

It has become increasingly competitive to stand out in the digital marketplace, especially if people no longer meet regularly. “You will not only need to develop yourself, but you will need to let people know you have those skills and showcase yourself.
